Symantec Positioned as a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms for the 16th Year*
Named Highest in Ability to Execute and Furthest in Completeness of Vision
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 29, 2018 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), one of the world's leading cyber security companies, today announced Symantec has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant of the 2018 "Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms."
Symantec has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the report since its inception in 2002. For the 2018 report, Gartner evaluated 21 vendors on 15 criteria based on completeness of vision and ability to execute, and positioned each vendor within the Magic Quadrant.
Endpoints are an attractive target for cyber criminals due to the myriad networks, devices and operating systems that employees use to access corporate assets every day. Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), a key component of Symantec's Integrated Cyber Defense Platform, protects 175 million endpoints across the globe, finding what antivirus tools often miss and providing forensic information if an attacker gets in.
Symantec's comprehensive endpoint capabilities are designed to meet the challenges of the cloud generation, allowing CISOs and IT teams to monitor, manage and contain threats while reducing operational complexity. Unique functionality in SEP 14.1 includes: deception technology, mobile threat defense for corporate-owned and BYOD devices, integrated endpoint detection and response, signatureless protection via machine learning techniques and application isolation with SEP Hardening.
"Symantec Endpoint Protection is the only solution that offers advanced malware protection, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), application isolation and deception capabilities all within a single agent," said Mike Fey, Symantec president and COO. "Over the last year we made a substantial investment to bring these advanced capabilities into a single endpoint platform for the cloud generation. We see Symantec's position as a Leader as validation that our strategy is paying off as we continue our significant investment in R&D."
