Urheberrecht: Ein immaterielles Recht, das dem Autor oder Urheber bestimmten geistigen Eigentums, einschließlich Softwareprodukte, per Gesetz zuerkannt wird und durch das dieser Person für einen befristeten Zeitraum die alleinigen Vorrechte (Ausschließlichkeitsrecht) zur Anfertigung von Kopien des Werks zur Veröffentlichung und zum Verkauf gewährt wird.
Urheberrechtsverletzung: Die nicht autorisierte Verwendung von urheberrechtlich geschütztem Material in einer Weise, die gegen eines der Ausschließlichkeitsrechte des Urhebers verstößt, beispielsweise das Recht auf Vervielfältigung oder Verwertung des urheberrechtlich geschützten Werks oder die Erstellung abgeleiteter Werke.
Produktaktivierung: Ein Verfahren zur Lizenzüberprüfung, das dazu dient, die Authentizität des Produktschlüssels zu verifizieren und sicherzustellen, dass der Produktschlüssel nicht für illegale Installationen verwendet wird. Die Produktaktivierung gewährleistet, dass NortonLifeLock-Programme ordnungsgemäß lizenziert werden.
Software-Lizenzvereinbarung: Ein Vertrag zwischen einem Hersteller und einem Nutzer von Computersoftware, der dem Nutzer eine Lizenz für die Nutzung der Software gewährt. Die Software-Lizenzvereinbarung regelt im Allgemeinen die Bedingungen für die Nutzung der lizenzierten Software durch Endbenutzer und wird deshalb als "Endbenutzer-Lizenzvereinbarung" (EULA) bezeichnet.
Produktschlüssel: Ein spezifischer Softwareschlüssel, der verwendet wird, um die Authentizität der Programmkopie zu verifizieren. Der Schlüssel besteht aus einer Folge von alphanumerischen Zeichen. In der Regel wird diese Zeichenfolge beim Installieren der Software vom Nutzer eingegeben und dann an eine Verifizierungsfunktion im Programm weitergeleitet.
Gesetzlich festgelegter Schadensersatz: Der gesetzlich festgelegte Schadensersatz bezeichnet im US-Urheberrechtsgesetz vorab festgesetzte Schadensersatzpauschalen, die einem Urheber im Fall einer erfolgreichen Urheberrechtsverletzungsklage als Entschädigungspauschale pro Werk zugesprochen werden können. Gesetzlich festgelegte Schadensersatzbeträge können deutlich höher sein als der vom Eigentümer des Urheberrechts tatsächlich erlittene Schaden oder der vom Urheberrechtsverletzer erzielte Gewinn.
Software-Upgrade: Ein Upgrade ist eine neue Version oder eine Erweiterung der bereits installierten oder verwendeten Software.
Spam: Unerwünschte Werbe-E-Mails oder unerwünschte Massen-E-Mails. Diese Art von Mitteilungen auch teilweise als Junk-Mail bezeichnet (Junk = Müll), in Anlehnung an unerwünschte Papierwerbung, die über die herkömmliche Post zugestellt wird.
Peer-to-Peer-Netzwerk: Im Internet ist ein Peer-to-Peer-Netzwerk (auch bekannt als "P2P") eine Art nicht residentes Internetrechnernetz, das einer Gruppe von Computernutzern, die über dasselbe Netzwerkprogramm verfügen, die Möglichkeit bietet, ihre Computer miteinander zu vernetzen und direkt auf Dateien zuzugreifen, die auf den Festplatten der vernetzten Nutzer gespeichert sind.
Produktsupport: Ein Service, der Endbenutzern eine Anlaufstelle für Informationen und Hilfestellung bei der rechtmäßigen Produktnutzung bietet.
Endbenutzer: Eine Person, die die Software nutzt.
Service-/Abonnementlaufzeit: Zeitraum, in dem ein Endbenutzer Live-Updates und Support erhält.
